LEARNING ABOUT OUR FAITH
Many of us will recall the Catechism learnt at school; a series of question with answers to be learnt by heart. And for many of us this represents the majority of our exposure to the Catholic faith outside of the weekly homilies.
Much has changed in the Catholic Church over the years and many have adopted information (or mis-information) passed on by word of mouth from the faithful. We, as lay people, are now being called more and more to evangelise, that is to pass on the Good News to our detached brothers and sisters. To do this effectively we need to know our faith properly.
To help us know our faith, the Catholic Church has issued a Catechism, but this is fairly large in size and content, and not always an easy read. However, it is an excellent source to find complete answers to difficult questions that may arise about our faith.
With the pace of life lived these days one would imagine that a more simplified reference source, with short but clear explanations supported by illustrations, would be far easier to digest and learn than otherwise. And this brings us to the reference source to be used in this site. The book called “Our Faith”, a Redemptorist Publication, is the basis to be used for material shown.
Different topics, with easy to understand and short explanations, will be drawn from this base source and offered for viewing periodically on this web site. The simplistic presentation of information will aid people undergoing RCIA training and even help children learn about their faith.
While we start our educational journey at the very beginning, over time the Catholic Faith in all its fullness and richness will be revealed. Taking time to digest the ‘bite-size’ sections will ultimately help readers strengthen their faith and devotion to our loving and merciful God and provide lay persons with confidence whenever confronted in having to defend or promote the faith.
